- This Permeability Tank has been designed to allow  students to make an experimental study of flow
   through permeable media.
-  Using two-dimensional models of hydraulic structures supported on sand foundations it is possible to
   determine flow lines, seepage rates and the distribution of  uplift pressures.
-  These experimentally obtained results may then be  compared with those given by analytical methods available
    for solving these problems
- Flow beneath an engineering structure such as a dam without a cut-off curtain
- Flow under sheet piling
- Depression of the water table which results from well pumping
- Sub-soil drainage system
- Distribution of uplift pressures on hydraulic structures
- Demonstration of 'quicksand' conditions in an excavation
